Last week game development company Square Enix held a showcase to announce upcoming projects.
The event opened with a trailer and gameplay overview for Outriders, which is set to be released later this year. Many have compared what’s been shown to other games, especially Destiny. It’s yet to be seen, but hopefully, Outriders can make its own place.
Square Enix then held a miniature 25th birthday party for the beloved globe-trotter, Lara Croft. A cookbook and travel guide were announced to celebrate the different locations Croft has visited over the years, as well as a definitive edition set of the recent trilogy. Alongside that, Lara and her Croft Manor come to Fortnite this season. In the showcase it was specified more was to come as the year goes on.
The main event for the showcase was the announcement of Life is Strange: True Colors. The third main installation of the series was introduced by internet personality and musician mxmtoon. The Life is Strange series follows coming-of-age stories with a supernatural twist.
The first game follows a high schooler named Max, as she returns to her hometown and discovers she has the power to rewind time. She uses this power to investigate a disappearance with her childhood best friend.
The sequel, Life is Strange 2, comments on the political climate and racism after the 2016 election. Brothers Sean and Daniel go on the run after a freak accident that unlocks Daniel’s telekinetic abilities.
The newest installment follows an empath named Alex as she reconnects with her brother after years apart. One of the characters from the first game’s prequel actually makes a return; Steph, a friend, and the potential romantic interest of Alex went to the same school as Max.
Deck Nine, the studio that developed this game, worked on the prequel for the first game and has been working on True Colors since 2017. This game is set to release in September.
