Employment at KVA

KVA employs Content Experts (our equivalent of teachers in the public school system.)  However, KVA prefers Content Experts with a high credential and a significant amount of real-world experience in his/her discipline.  KVA Content Experts' main responsibility is to support students' learning and mastery of content, as per the Nova Scotia Learning Outcomes Framework (as articulated on the Curricular Outcomes Document for each course) and the College Board's Advanced Placement courses/exams.  Our job, as KVA Content Experts, is to support our students in becoming prepared for their next level of education, and life as adults.  This includes improved learning skills, increased engagement in academics, more effective self-direction, acquired content knowledge and skills, higher maturity and responsibility towards their academics and life overall.

KVA Content Experts work one-on-one with KVA students.

KVA is a niche school, within the program of Nova Scotia Department of Education accreditation.  This refers to KVA's abilities to support certain students in ways beyond those of Nova Scotia public schools.  KVA has a comprehensive online program that allows students to work remotely and meet with their Content Experts remotely, with flexibility in meeting time (as negotiated by students and their Content Experts).  In addition, KVA's education model is well-suited to gifted and talented students, as well as students with special learning needs.

KVA tends to have low enrollment, as compared to public junior high and high schools in the Halifax Regional Municipality.  Therefore, the time/day requirements for Content Experts at KVA is low, so most Content Experts employed at KVA are part-time employees.

If you have spare time and flexibility during the week, as well as a high level of credentials (Ph.D. preferred, Masters accepted) and experience (work in industry, as a professional, in your content area) you will likely be suitable to become a KVA Content Expert.  The pay is between $20 and $40 per hour, based on credentials and experience.
