This month in GCS Library Media Services:
We circulated about 50,000 fewer books than last year.
What can you do to boost circulation at your school next school year?
We EXCEEDED our goal of reading 10 million minutes this year and ended just shy of 16 million!

Promote GCS Summer Break Reading Challenge (2.b, 4.c)
Facilitate school device collection** (1.a)
Run reports on 4th quarter circulation data (2.a)
Review circulation data and procedures (2.a, 3.a, 5.a)
Evaluate circulation procedures for what is or is not working (2.a, 3.a, 5.a, 5.c)
Share 4th quarter data and activities with Admin and MTAC (1.c, 3.b)
Update Destiny Discover homepage and library website for summer break (1.a, 3.a)
Tabulate time spent on technology and non-evaluated* tasks (1.c)
Prek-12th grade students must read at least 600 minutes between June 12 and August 24 to earn a ticket to Kersey Valley.
All students who read and record 600 minutes of reading will be eligible for one ticket to a Kersey Valley attraction (option of the Corn Maze or the Christmas Family event). Spooky Woods is not included this year.
Reading minutes must be logged in Beanstack to be eligible for a prize. Students who cannot record their minutes over Summer Break can enter them in Beanstack when they return to school. To count toward the challenge, minutes will need to be dated during Summer Break.

Tentative dates for LMS Professional Development and other deadlines are available for planning purposes.

SLMCs who plan to attend the NCSLMA conference in October, should complete the conference attendance form by August 1.
Destiny Reminders
End of Year Tasks
SLMCs should review and complete End of Year Tasks by June 13 to close out the year and make sure the database is prepared for the new school year.
Summer Destiny Access
Destiny access will be limited to catalog searches, circulation, reporting and inventory beginning June 16 and ending August 19 (July 30 for Extended Year sites). During this time Destiny catalog protocols and access will be revised and Destiny Library Manager will be updated. Resources and training on changes will be provided at beginning of the year meetings, though the updates will be live in Destiny by June 23.

Piedmont Triad Region 5 Conference
for K-12 SLMCs and K-8 Science/STEM Teachers
Tuesday, December 16 at UNCG
Presenters wanted! The call for proposals will open on September 2.
The 2025 conference theme is “Stronger Together” and will highlight ways in which collaboration and connection, in schools and within the region, strengthen programs and support learning.
📌The conference is expanding to include K-12 SLMCs and K-8 Science/STEM educators. There will be sessions for school library media practitioners, science and STEM instructors, and a learning track that focuses on integrating literacy and STEM in the elementary and middle grades.
BLASTEM Symposium
There will be a half day session on day 2 of the BLASTEM Symposium focused on K-8 science/STEM & SLMC collaboration. You do need to be registered for the symposium to attend.
Discover dynamic ways to spark STEM learning through collaboration! Join the STEM and LMS Depts to explore engaging tools and strategies to teach the Engineering Design Process and Science and Engineering Practices.
Conclude Responsible Use Courses
All 2024-25 Responsible Use Course should be concluded (closed out) at the end of the school year. Instructions for this process are available in the Canvas Knowledge base. All Responsible Use Courses should be concluded by the last student day of the school year.
EOY Device Guidance
The GCS Asset Manager site is now live and accessible to all staff members (instructions here). The EOY Procedures document has also been updated with the link.
