Any teacher planning to use books and resources that are supplemental to district approved curriculum must follow the process outlined in Regulation Code 3200-R.
Permanent Instructional Resources. When evaluating newly proposed, permanent resources for classroom instruction, one or more staff members will apply the Criteria for Selection of Educational Resources, assess curriculum needs, consider networking arrangements, and consult reputable, professional reviews for selection. The actual item shall be previewed or examined and judged as a whole. The examiner(s) should present the results of the examination to the school’s MTAC. If approved by the school’s MTAC, the resource may be assigned to students. The school’s media specialist will then secure signatures on the resource addition form and send it to the Office of Curriculum and Instruction to be added to the district’s supplemental resource list.
The MTAC Chair must submit any supplemental resources approved through this process using the provided form.
All materials used in instruction must meet the criteria outlined in Regulation Code: 3200R Selection of Instructional Materials/Educational Resources.
Additionally, materials used in K-4 lessons must align with the Parents Bill of Rights.
Classroom video use must meet GCS selection criteria, copyright and Fair Use Standards, as well as Terms of Use for the service(s) providing the movie or video clip.
