The “Who, What, Why, and How” of Advocating and Marketing School Libraries
(from Shannon Miller, NCTIES 2023)
Who are you?
What is your story?
What is unique about your story?
What makes your library unique?
Why does your library matter?
What do you want people to feel?
Who needs to know?
Who is your audience?
How many audiences do you have?
Story remains the same, how you communicate the story may be different.
Why should they care?
How can you help them meet their goals?
How can your space help THEM?
How can the library be part of their story (teachers, students, families, communities) too?
Don’t just list services or what your library tangibly offers. Connect to FEELINGS!
