Laps for Learning Frequently Asked Questions
What is Laps for Learning?
Laps for Learning is one of our annual fundraisers! Funds raised go toward supporting the Discovery Experience, including field trips, classroom enrichments and so much more. We count on students to ask family and friends for donations with the goal of 100% student participation. Additionally, the PSC, our parent volunteer organization, works tirelessly to secure sponsorships from various businesses.
What will the event be like? How can parents participate?
Laps for Learning is a walkathon-style event, (even though the amount of donations each student brings in does not actually determine how many laps they walk or run), where parents and teachers mark tallies on the back of students' shirts as they complete each lap. The event is intended to be a fun run to cap off the fundraising each family has done over the past few weeks. Parents are encouraged to attend the event, cheer on the students and mingle with the Falcon community. Fresh fruit and water will be provided for the students post laps completion. When will students receive t-shirts? When will prepaid orders be delivered?
Students will receive a free 2025-2026 Laps for Learning t-shirt, designed by a Falcon student on Wednesday, November 12th before they get ready to complete their laps. Family members can pick up their paid orders at the T-Shirt Order table on the Blacktop during the event. Any prepaid shirt orders that are not picked up will be sent home with your students. This shirt will be worn at the walkathon and for all field trips.
How can I gather donations?
We encourage students and their families to raise funds by asking family members, friends and neighbors. Below is a sample script to help get started, but feel free to be creative!
“Hi friends and family! I am a ____ grader at Discovery Charter School. My school is having our annual Laps for Learning walk-a-thon on Tuesday November 7th. We will be walking/running laps to raise money for our amazing school. Would you like to make a donation to help our school? I can send you a link to make your payment online. Thank you for supporting my school!”

I don’t want to fundraise. Can I make a donation?
Yes. We hope each child will bring in at least $150, though our goal is 100% student participation at any amount.
Is there a form to turn in?
No, everything is being done online this year through 99pledges.com. Check out Peri the Falcon's Personal 99Pledges Website
Inform donors to use the link and search for your student’s name. If you have a donor who prefers cash or check, you can deliver it to Sylvia in the office but be sure to include the name of your student(s) so that your class(es) gets credit.
What is the deadline for donations?
Donations must be received by Friday, November 14th to be counted for the classroom contest.
