Professional development can be defined in a number of different ways. The following is a definition written by Stephanie Hirsh, Executive Director of Learning Forward, as given on the organization’s website. Hirsh defines professional development as “an integral part of school and local educational agency strategies for providing educators (including teachers, principals, other school leaders, specialized instructional support personnel, paraprofessionals, and, as applicable, early childhood educators) with the knowledge and skills necessary to enable students to succeed in a well-rounded education and to meet the challenging State academic standards; and are sustained (not stand-alone, 1-day, or short term workshops), intensive, collaborative, job-embedded, data-driven, and classroom-focused” (https://learningforward.org/who-we-are/professional-learning-definition)
This Google Site is designed to help DACC staff keep-up with the latest news and information on the multiple learning opportunities available for professional growth and have easy access to resources pertaining to professional development.
This site will be continually updated to reflect the many events and opportunities occurring at DACC for professional development. If you would like addition information on any of the content or have suggestions for new content that would be helpful to staff - please contact the Instructional Projects Coordinator, Kelly Kohl: kohlk@DelawareAreaCC.org
The goal of this site and its' content is to keep all staff in informed about what types of activities and information is available to acquire professional development units (needed for certified staff to renew a license) and to continue to be life-long learners, just as we expect of our students.
