Engaging in community involvement while teaching and exploring Taiwan can be a fulfilling experience, especially when connecting with fellow Filipino teachers, factory workers, and Foreign English Teachers (FETs). Taiwan offers a vibrant mix of cultures and immersing myself in local traditions while maintaining ties with the Filipino community can make my stay even more enriching.

Here are some ways I get involved:

Filipino Community Gatherings – Many Filipino teachers and factory workers in Taiwan organize social events, religious gatherings, and cultural celebrations, such as Filipino Independence Day festivities and "askong Pinoy. These events provide a great opportunity to bond, share experiences, and support one another.

Local Cultural Immersion – Exploring Taiwan’s night markets, temples, and festivals allows me to experience its rich heritage firsthand. Participating in events like the Lunar New Year celebrations or the Mid-Autumn Festival can deepen my understanding of Taiwanese traditions.

Professional Networking & Collaboration – We, FETs often collaborate on workshops, training sessions, and educational projects to enhance teaching methodologies. Engaging in these activities can help us grow professionally while building connections with educators from different backgrounds.

Weekend Travel & Exploration – Taiwan’s efficient transportation system makes it easy to explore scenic spots like from North to South. Traveling with fellow Filipinos, colleagues, and even touring guests from the Philippines can make my trips even more enjoyable while creating lasting memories.

Taiwan’s Bilingual Nation 2030 Policy has led to an increase in Filipino educators and other nationalities from the west, making it easier to find support networks and professional opportunities. Whether through teaching, traveling, or engaging in cultural activities, my time in Taiwan can be both professionally rewarding and personally enriching!
