We've constructed three pathways to help you find the 'right fit'. If you are new to Canvas and need a quick start for developing your course, start with Pathway 1. If you'd like to look at upcoming workshops, you can register through Pathway 2. We hope EVERYONE will join us for Pathway 3 in a virtual asynchronous Teaching and Learning Community where you'll find friendly support during the first three weeks of the Spring Semester. Select each pathway to see the details and start your journey!
If you are new to CSUCI, Canvas, or want to make sure you are up to date with Canvas, Zoom, and Syllabus resources visit CI Learn On Demand!
This "Course" consists of microcourses to help you launch a student-centered course using Canvas, whether teaching online, in-person, or something in between. Self-paced Microcourse will guide you through developing:
A helpful homepage
Student-centered welcoming "Start Here" or "Orientation Module"
An equitized syllabus
A disruption plan
A content module
Transparent Assignment Directions
Transparent Content Development
Work in any order or pick and choose only the topics you need. You can earn a digital badge for each microcourse, but this is not required to dip in and get the information you need. Enroll today. The course will be available, Friday, January 21st. Starting January 24th, T.L.C. 101 will be part of our Spring '22 Kickoff. For more information, view Pathway 3.
Interested in learning more about the digital tools and more at your fingertips? Don't miss a beat and subscribe to the Division of Academic Affairs Calendar. Below are two workshops for those new to Canvas or who'd like a skills refresher. Our own TLi Academic Tech Team will be facilitating (in-person and online). You can also view TLi Specific Events.
In the first workshop of the Canvas series, learn how to hit the ground running with Canvas! This introduction workshop is all about the basics.
In it, we’ll cover:
Managing Notification Settings
How to access Canvas Chat support
Creating or uploading a Syllabus
Setting your homepage
This second workshop in our Canvas series goes beyond the basic initial course setup. During this hour-long session, we’ll cover:
Changing the course menu
Creating Assignments
Creating Discussions
Creating Modules
Using the Calendar
Getting started this term is again unique. We are beginning remotely, with many courses transitioning back to in-person in a couple of weeks. Our number one priority is making sure you, our faculty, can get the resources and support you need when they need it! TLi Learning Design is hosting an asynchronous teaching and learning community from January 24th-February 18th.
All participation is 100% asynchronous, but you can always connect with a real human if you'd like! The point of the Kickoff is to make sure you have on demand resources and can easily get support (asynchronous or synchronous) from TLi Learning Designers. No set courses! Nothing is 'due' at the end. This is about learning together and supporting one another. Do as much or little as you find helpful.
For every microcourse you complete you can earn a digital badge as evidence of time spent engaged in professional learning. Again, this is optional!
A TLi designed course in Canvas consisting of microcourses to help you launch a student-centered course. Microcourses cover the following:

All CSUCI Faculty can activate a subscription to OneHE (One Higher Education) good through May 2023. We are thrilled to be the first CSU to bring this platform to faculty! Visit the OneHE page to learn more. During the Kickoff join in on a weekly discussion. Complete all 3 discussions, and earn a Spring '22 Kickoff Participation Badge as evidence of engagement in professional learning
TLi's Learning Design Team will host a weekly office hour in Zoom each week of the Kickoff. We'll focus on a specific 'getting started' topic each week but will also be available to answer your specific teaching and learning and Canvas questions. We'd love to meet you and connect, so feel free to drop in and just say 'hi'. Specific days/times will be announced the week of January 24th
We are fortunate to have seven faculty available for 1:1 consultations on everything Teaching and Learning. Our mentors are experienced faculty who have taught in multiple course modalities. To "meet" each DLM and book a consultation, visit the DLM website. This support is available even after the Spring '22 Kickoff. Contact a DLM with questions via email or schedule to meet. They are a wealth of knowledge and experience, and know what it's like to be 'new.' They are looking forward to supporting you - please don't hesitate to connect!
