MyCatholicDoctor is a new organization that opened clinically in 2019. Our mission is to make Catholic healthcare accessible to everyone. We accomplish this mission in the United States by using video-based consultation, housecalls, a growing group of in-person locations, a specialist network, and a unique financial model that aims to accommodate different healthcare payment methods. We are committed to serving people of all faiths and creeds.

Are you considering joining MyCatholicDoctor as a clinician? This page describes MyCatholicDoctor’s organizational structure and gives details on the steps to join us. One the information on this page has been reviewed, you may schedule an interview meeting with us using the link at the bottom of this page or by clicking the "Meet with us!" menu item. Thank you.

Services for Clinicians:

MyCatholicDoctor is a collaborative effort between three entities– the MyCatholicDoctor Foundation, Inc., a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit organization, and MyCatholicDoctor, P.L.L.C., a group of healthcare providers. In California we have a separate provider group to meet California state laws. This corporate structure is necessary because 501(c)(3) organizations are not permitted to bill for medical care under the laws of some states.

Please meet our Board of Directors and learn more about our business plan.

We are delighted to share with you the full list of dedicated healthcare professionals that have joined us. This group of faithful professionals committed to providing compassionate Catholic healthcare is the heart of our organization.

All MyCatholicDoctor healthcare professionals agree to practice in accordance with the following documents:

The Ethical and Religious Directives of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops

The Catechism of the Catholic Church

The ethical position statements of the Catholic Medical Association

Please pray for us, especially through the intercession of our patrons:

Joining MyCatholicDoctor as a 1099 Independent Contractor:

Joining MyCatholicDoctor as a 1099 Independent Contractor allows you to quickly and easily start your own faithful telehealth practice with almost no up-front cost other than a computer and webcam. You get to practice with the full voice of faith with a team of faithful colleagues you trust. You may make your own hours and work from your location of choice. You may also provide house-calls. There are no non-competes, and we will help you establish your own patient population.

MyCatholicDoctor takes care of all the logistics including EMR, malpractice, online scheduling, telehealth technology, lab accounts, eRx and eprescribing, credentialing, payer/insurance provider enrollments, billing and collections. You get paid standard rates based on each CPT code you bill. Payroll is on the 15th of each month.

It is possible to open an in-person office and run the practice through MyCatholicDoctor, but this requires additional insurance and additional tax considerations, so you will need to be seeing a significant volume of patients in order to justify running a brick-and-mortar office through MyCatholicDoctor.

APRNs and PAs: We will do our best to help you find a collaborating physician within MyCatholicDoctor, or you can continue to work with your current collaborating physician even if that person does not join MyCatholicDoctor.

Onboarding donation: If you wish to join us, we are asking that you contribute financially to cover your onboarding costs, which is a suggested one-time donation of $2500. This is a tax-deductible donation. The $2500 covers upfront malpractice costs, insurance credentialing and enrollment, and upfront technology fees. A check payable to The MyCatholicDoctor Foundation may be mailed to us. If you have financial hardship, please discuss this with us.

Please note: Natural family planning educators and other allied health professionals do not need insurance credentialing and enrollment and the financial contribution we ask for is $100.

Employment status:

Currently, all MyCatholicDoctor co-workers are 1099 independent contractors. We hope to offer W-2 employment in the future.

Contracts:

We provide a 1099 Independent Contractor Provider Services Agreement and a Business Associate Agreement.

Malpractice:

MyCatholicDoctor provides malpractice for all services rendered through our company. This policy covers all of the care you provide through MyCatholicDoctor. If you leave MyCatholicDoctor, the care you provided is still covered. There is no need to purchase tail insurance.

Credentialing, Billing and Collections:

We arrange for provider enrollment with all major payers in each state where you are licensed. We provide all billing and collection services. More information on billing and collections is available on our website. Providers are paid approximately 75% of collections using standard rates based on each CPT code billed. Provider payment will be made monthly, on or about the 15th of the following month, or the following business day, for the previous month’s work. The chart on our Payment page shows standard rates for typical visits. During the onboarding process, we will provide you with a comprehensive "Billing Crash Course", which details exact rates based on each CPT code billed.

Benefits:

At present, we are not able to offer health insurance benefits to our 1099 contracted clinicians. We have worked hard on this problem, but we have not found a solution.

All our clinicians are eligable for funded CME through our monthly virtual Grand Rounds. Asynchronous funded CME is also available through our pro-life partner organization VitaeCME.

Payroll and onboarding:

Our payroll services are provided by Paychex. Direct-deposit forms, tax forms, and other onboarding documents are completed during the onboarding process along with the contract. We will also do a background check through an independent company.

IT platform:

We have a customized virtual care platform that incorporates Acuity Scheduling, Zoom for telehealth, Kareo EMR, and Medsender faxing for healthcare. Our full-service EMR includes e-prescribing and elab integration with Quest and LabCorp. We have national accounts with Quest and LabCorp that allow online ordering and results. Our EMR also generates PDF orders that can be faxed or sent to any lab or imaging center using our HIPAA compliant faxing service for healthcare. For the patient utilizing our platform, everything is branded as MyCatholicDoctor.

Scheduling:

You set your own availability and make your own schedule through Acuity Scheduling. You are given a calendar where you will set your hours of availability. The calendar can be changed far in advance or up until the present moment if you desire. If you have to cancel appointments due to your own personal situation, it is your responsibility to do so. There is no pay for making yourself available if no one chooses to see you. We do ask for a minimum of 16 hours per month of availability.

Training:

Training is available for our Kareo, our EMR, through their training platform. Training is also available for Zoom for telehealth, Acuity Scheduling, and Medsender faxing for healthcare.

Hardware requirements and start-up costs:

Most use a laptop with an integrated webcam. You do need a good internet connection with any standard internet service provider.  Your internet connection does not need to be encrypted, encryption is provided in the HIPAA compliant telehealth portal.

National Accounts with Quest and LabCorps:

We have national accounts with Quest and LabCorp with deeply discounted negotiated rates. These discounted rates are especially beneficial for cash-pay and healthshare patients.

Peripherals:

Some of our patients, especially schools and large families, are using a digital stethoscope, and video otoscope. Right now, most of our patients have things like thermometers and blood pressure cuffs and pulse oximeters at home and they read us the data during the visit. In the future, we hope to make these peripherals part of the welcome package for new patients or available to purchase on our website or as a MyCatholicDoctor product available for purchase on Amazon.

Marketing:

We primarily market through targeted online media, Google, Facebook, other social media, and Catholic publications.  We also use earned media, meaning that we actively seek out opportunities to write articles for online and print publications and/or be a guest on radio and television programs. We have plans to incorporate YouTube videos as well. We are in conversation with multiple partner organizations (see the footer of our website) to develop collaborative health education and marketing campaigns.

We have directly contracted with employers across the United States.

Compact Licensure:

We would like to ask physicians, psychologists, mental health counselors, and physical therapists to sincerely consider getting licensed in multiple states through the compact licensure. Compact licensure allows you to apply for a license in one "state of primary licensure" and then get licensed in the rest without going through an arduous application process in each state. You do have to pay for each license. MyCatholicDoctor will assist you with this process.

Physicians: use the Interstate Medical License Compact

For physicians, if your home state is not a "state of primary licensure," you can apply for a New Hampshire state license and you will qualify for the IMLC because MCD is incorporated in NH.  Please read more at https://imlcc.org/

Psychologists: use the PsyPact

Physical therapists: use the PTCompact

Mental health Counselors: use the Counseling Compact
