For my Q&A, I wanted to ask students in both 7th and 8th grade about their opinions on school life. Here’s what students at Brea Junior High had to say.
School Lunch: What’s on the Menu?
Most students said they would change the school lunch, as they dislike a lot of the food. The only options they seem to enjoy are Domino's and burgers. While I agree with the need for some variety, we also need to consider the importance of healthy food. One student named Luca Ferrari even joked that they want cheeseburgers every day!
The Dress Code Debate
The dress code was another hot topic. Some students feel the rules are a bit strict, like the one about wearing a hat backward. However, most agree that the majority of the rules are reasonable.
Elective Favorites
I was also curious about what electives people enjoy, and everyone had a different opinion!
One student named Caleb Ferrari said Leadership because they get to watch movies.
Another chose ASB, saying it makes them feel like a leader.
One student picked Journalism—my personal favorite—because they get to write articles like this one!
First Impressions
I also asked students about their first day of school. Most students, including James Chavez, said it was a lot of fun because they got to explore the school and meet new people. They were also excited to have seven different teachers. For the 8th graders, a big plus was being the oldest students on campus.
7th Grade vs. 8th Grade
When I asked 8th graders if they liked 7th or 8th grade more, the majority said 8th grade is better. They feel they can be more involved and have more activities to do. One student named Luca Ferrari even mentioned feeling "more dominant" in 8th grade.
Where to Sit at Lunch?
Finally, I was curious about where students prefer to sit during lunch. Many said they don't really eat and instead just go to the field. However, some students said they prefer to sit in the indoor cafeteria because it’s too hot to be outside.
These were all the questions and answers I gathered from Brea Junior High students.
