The History of Mashed Potatoes
The potato was first refined in South America, but the first known recipe for mashed potatoes was made by English author Hannah Glasse in her cookbook in 1774 "The Art of Cookery". A French pharmacist named Antoine-Augustin Parmentier became a famous supporter of potatoes, helping to make them popular in Europe after he was forced to eat them during the seven years of War.
