On January 9th, we had a K-pop group here on Bobcat campus called “5Alive”. They performed 3 songs in total, including their newest debut single, “Queendom”. They wowed our local Bobcats with their impressive choreography and charismatic personalities, showing their true idol spirits. The group consists of five girls, Bay, Ellie, Ciara, Jia, and Nini.
To further the information, I have some interesting fun facts about the girls and information to get to know them better.
Jia is 22 years old and is Chinese and Vietnamese. Some fun facts about her we know is that she is a Virgo and her Chinese zodiac sign is a goat. According to kprofiles.com, her representative emoji is a lion.
Ellie is 21 and is Korean. Some fun facts about her are that we know she has a pet fish. Her zodiac sign is Aries and her Chinese zodiac is a monkey. Ellie’s representative emoji is a tiger.
Nini is 19 years old and is Filipino and Vietnamese. Fun facts about her include her favourite Sanrio character being Chococat, says kprofiles.com. As we learned from the concert here on campus, she has four dogs. Her zodiac sign is Aquarius and her Chinese zodiac sign is a dog. Nini’s representative emoji is a black cat.
Ciara is also 19 and is Filipino and British. Some things we know about her is that she has a dog named Milo. Her zodiac sign is a Scorpio and her Chinese zodiac sign is a dog, just like Nini. Ciara’s representative emoji is a fox.
Bay is 17 and Korean. Things we know about her is that she is the youngest of the group, being named the maknae, which means she is the youngest of her group in Korean speaking terms. Her name is a nickname for her actual name, Bailey. Bay’s zodiac sign is Leo and her Chinese zodiac sign is a rat.
Fortunately for us who work for the school newspaper, I got a private interview with them right after the show. Let’s read what they had to say!
“How did you guys come to be?”
Jia: “Well, we came to be because we did an audition and we all wanted to kind of pursue of being a singer and so we all took an audition, and we thought that the producers that we would work with would be super cool and it would be like a really great opportunity, so we all did auditions at various different times, but that’s how we became a group.”
Where did you guys get the idea for your songs?
Nini: “So, for “Queendom” which is our debut single, this was a song that we recorded about 2 or 3 years ago now and it means a lot to us because it was one of the very first songs we ever heard and also one of the very first songs we ever recorded in a studio. We had a little bit of singing practice here and there, but in a studio, working with producers and stuff like that, that was our first song and that was what ended up being our debut.”
What's the story to your upcoming second single “Honey”?
Jia: “Okay, so for ‘Honey’, something that we used to do that we think is a really important part of our history as a group is we used to go to Sweden a lot to finish the album and record different songs and (like) work on choreography, and so in Sweden, we recorded ‘Honey’ for the first time. And so, when we hear that song we just think of all the memories of us training and being in Sweden and it’s a really heartfelt and sentimental song for us. We also, obviously now that we are releasing it as our second song I think it's really great that we get to go to a different vibe change from ‘Queendom’ to ‘Honey’, it’s more upbeat, it’s more fun and I think it suits us very well as a group.”
Bay: “I think it’s very cool that our debut song in our next single, it’s kind of- they’re both really different, so we kind of show that we can do different vibes and have different sides, like a sort of duality.”
What is the favourite thing about your group?
Ellie: “So for us, it’s the fact that we work really hard but, the thing that’s so special about us is that we genuinely have so much fun when we’re together and it feels like a friend group that’s been existing already for a really long time. I feel like these people are meant to be in my life.”
Ciara: “I think one really good thing about our group is that we all have something different to bring to the table, and when that comes together, it just creates this amazing thing of 5Alive.”
And now, for a special message from Ellie!
Ellie: “If you’re available for the seventeenth, come to The Source! We’ll be performing honey for the very first time!”

To tie it all together, I got a pair of interviews from two of the girls from the crowd who got chosen to answer a trivial question in exchange for special idol cards from 5Alive.
So, what did you think about the performance?
Nyla: “I think it was really good [and] I liked the singing and the dancing very much and they (5Alive) were really nice.”
What was your favourite song they performed?
Nyla: “My favourite song was probably the ‘Waterpark’ one.”
Would you see them again at the source?
Nyla: “Yes, if I have time.”
And now, last but not least, our interview from a local Bobcat, Arabella.
How did you enjoy the concert?
Arabella: “I loved it! I was screaming at the top of my lungs.”
What was your favorite song?
Arabella: “I knew all the songs because I kinda researched them before, so I think ‘Queendom’ will always be my favorite, honestly.”
Would you see them again at their next performance at the source when they reveal their song “Honey”?
Arabella: “Yes, I will hopefully go since I really liked their performance here.”
And with that, I conclude this article.
