Every year, Brea United Choirs puts together its fall show. The Choir has four shows throughout the school year, each with three to four nights that you can watch the show on. Fall Magic's theme is Broadway, so all the songs will be musical and Broadway-themed.
The Brea Junior High School has two choirs: Starlet Express, a treble (all girls) intermediate choir, and Show Choir Express is a mixed (boys and girls) advanced choir. At the Brea Olinda High School, they have three choirs: Spellbound, an advanced treble choir; Masquerade, an advanced mixed choir; and Tiffany and Co., a mixed intermediate choir.
This year, Fall Magic takes place on September 25, 26, and 27 from seven pm to nine pm. Most parents recommend arriving at around 6:45 p.m. so you can park and find your seats in the Performing Arts Center. There is a 15-minute intermission in the middle of the show, where they sell food, drinks, flowers and candy necklaces for you to buy for the performers.
All the performers love being in the choir and singing and dancing during Fall Magic.
“It being the first show choir performance of the year that itself is super exciting, but then also coming together with all the choirs is super amazing!” Audrey Ho, 8th Grader, & part of Show Choir Express.
“Having fun while performing and making memories with everyone!” Giada Calabretta, 8th Grader, & Starlet president.
“My Favorite part about choir is how it's super fun and gives us the option to do a bunch of things like sing, dance, and just have fun.” Grace Smelby, 8th Grader, & part of Show Choir Express.
The choir teacher and director, Ms. Gooch, also loves getting to put together Fall magic and getting to be part of the students' singing journey.
Q: What's your favorite part about Fall Magic?
A: “My favorite part about Fall Magic is getting to see what every choir is capable of that year because it’s the first time we are all performing together.”
Q: Is it really hard to put together a show, like Fall Magic?
A: “It kinda depends on the year. Some years I’m so inspired and there's a million songs I want to do, but some years, there’s too many choices, so I don't know what to pick. But it usually comes together in the end, not too hard.”
Q: What’s your favorite Fall Magic song you have done in the past?
A: “Oh, that's hard to answer because if I’m being honest, I only do songs that I like. We did Junie B Jones the musical two years ago with Starlet, and we did the song “Top Secret Personal Bees wax” and it’s where she writes in her own personal journal.”
Q: What’s your favorite part about being a choir teacher?
A: My favorite part about being a choir teacher, besides getting to sing all day, is that students really want to be in my class because they choose it as an elective, so there is less behavioral issues of like “Uhh, I don’t want to be here”, so everybody really tries and wants to be in the class!”
The Brea Choirs love Fall Magic and hope to see so many people in the audience getting to enjoy the magic of Show Choir.
