Everyone knows what Disneyland is. It's the happiest place on Earth after all. But does everyone know what the Oogie Boogie Bash is? The event takes place during Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays from August 18th-October 31st. Even though the official party starts at six o-clock, they allow you to enter the park at three. Once the event actually starts, all people with regular admission are kicked out of the park since those who are there for the event get a wristband once they enter the park. Both writers Kairi Tang and Kaylee Ecarma went to the Oogie Boogie Bash with their friends and family recently. Kaylee’s family dressed up as characters from the movie Up, while Kairi’s family dressed up as characters from Turning Red.
Madame Leota’s Swinging Wake Parade
If you are a Disney fan, you probably know of the iconic Disney parade that is the same every year. The usual Frightfully Fun Parade could not go on due to recent construction so a new parade has come out in its place! This year, the parade goes heavy on the dancing instead of having a bunch of floats. In this parade, the floats and dancers stop at specific places in the park so be careful in choosing where to sit! The parade will pause in specific spots along the park so be sure to secure your spot early! There will be two parades: the first at 7:45 p.m. and the second at 10:15 p.m. Also, the second parade tends to be a lot less crowded so it’s highly recommended to see that one.
Seasonal Park Desserts
This Halloween, numerous snacks went along with the spooky theme. In San Fransokyo (the Big Hero 6 part of the park), The Cappuccino Cart sells a seasonal Mickey Waffle Macaron. It’s filled with maple flavored buttercream, maple syrup, and chocolate covered waffle pieces. Great to start your day with something sweet! Also, in San Fransokyo, in the Lucky Fortune Cookery, you can grab an Ube filled macaron shaped like Baymax in his red battle suit. It's filled with chocolate and salted caramel crunchy pearls to compliment the rich flavor. Many non-ube lovers can even agree that it is a delicious snack! At Schmozies, outside the Monsters Inc. Ride, a green Mickey shaped waffle with banana custard is available. The green flavor is matcha and is a great warm snack for a break in between rides. Also at Schmoozies, a pumpkin pie milkshake is available with all the warm and cozy flavors. Back over in San Fransokyo, in Clarrabell's Hand-scooped Ice Cream Shop, a spooky, Mickey shaped ice cream bar is now up for grabs. The classic churro has been Halloweenafied in many different ways and in different areas of the park. First, in Avengers Campus, in Terran Treats, ube seems to be popular because an ube cheesecake churro is its seasonal option. Next, over by Goofy’s Sky School, a caramel cheesecake churro is served. Lastly, over by what turns into Villains Grove during the event, a fluffernutter churro filled and topped with peanut butter, marshmallow, and chocolate chips is offered by a sweets cart.
Treat Trails
Throughout the party, there will be many spots around the park where staff members will give you candy in the trails. When you first enter the park you will get a small bag meant for all your sweet treats, but seasoned veterans usually bring their own larger bags to store the candy in. There are a total of 11 treat trails all around the park with 8 of them having villain appearances and 3 with just candy (P.S. There is also an additional trial for Magic Key holders where you get a special sticker that you can only receive this year). If you’re looking for a spot with tons of villains, Hollywood Land is packed with treat trials and villains alike! In just one area you can see Oogie Boogie, Dr. Doofenshmirtz, Hades, Judge Doom, and Ernesto de la Cruz. Aside from Hollywood Land, you can also see Agatha Harkness in Avengers Campus (Dr. Strange area) and Syndrome in Pixar Pier (near Bing Bong’s Sweet Stuff candy shop). Lastly, in Grizzly Peak you can find two villains in just one trail. During the party, the Grizzly River Run ride is closed so that the line can go through it. In this particular trail, you will meet Yzma and Maleficent along with the many piles of candy you will receive!
Halloween-Themed Rides
Many rides throughout the whole theme park dresses up for Halloween just as we do. In California Adventure, the main rides that are changed for the Halloween season are Mater's Junkyard Jamboree, in Cars Land, Luigi's Rollickin' Roadsters, also in Cars Land, and Guardians of the Galaxy Mission: Breakout! Mater’s Junkyard Jamboree changes up the decorations in and outside the attraction. Outside the ride, the entrance adds a mummified tractor for you to take a photo with. In the line itself, it is decorated with mummy wrap, bats, and Easter eggs pointing to the Car Movie. On the actual ride, the music changes to spooky songs you can vibe to. Many people swear the ride is more violent but this was never confirmed by Disney. Next, Luigi’s Rockin Roadsters only has slight changes. Just like Mater’s, the music changes and the decorations adjust to the spooky season. Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout changes to be called Guardians of the Galaxy: Monsters after dark. After waiting a bit, you are met with an elevator themed queue where Rocket the raccoon tells you the plan. You are meant to wave your hands and scream so that Rocket can find his buddy Groot. But, there's one twist, monsters are trying to catch you too! The line is all the same but the ride is different. Being confirmed by imagineers, the bouncing of the ride is much more aggressive and there are many more drops. The photo at the top is the same so make sure to smile!
This is an experience that every Disney lover should witness. Both authors truly recommend attending this event and they both enjoy going every year. Have a spooky Halloween!
