My Top Five Harry Styles Songs
Harry Styles, an artist known for crafting catchy melodies that stick in your head for months, has released three albums in his solo career. He is widely recognized for his two hit singles, “Watermelon Sugar” and “As It Was.” However, he has more to his discography than the three words, “watermelon sugar high.” Here are five hidden gems of his that deserve their chance to shine in the spotlight.
5. Keep Driving
“Keep Driving” is the perfect song to play on, you guessed it, a long car drive. It’s mellow and breezy mood is contagious and very catchy. The repeating guitar riff paired with Harry’s delicate vocals perfectly replicates the feeling of driving along the 57 freeway at sundown, giving a freeing feeling. As someone who loves lengthy car drives, I can’t help but adore this song.
4. Ever Since New York
“Ever Since New York,” the fourth track on Harry’s debut album, is the perfect tune for the fall season. With a soft, acoustic guitar, delicate piano, and the distant beating of a drum, “Ever Since New York” has a welcoming sound that warmly embraces your ears. Whether you are studying, watching the rain from your bedroom window, or biking through the crisp autumn air, this song deserves to be the first track on your fall playlist.
3. Matilda
“Matilda” is a beautiful ode to one of Harry’s close friends, who grew up in a household in which she didn’t receive the love a child should have received. In an interview with Zane Lowe, Harry explained how one of his best friends began opening up about the experiences her childhood brought her. Harry, having been lucky enough to grow up in a safe and caring household with a loving mother and sister, couldn’t help but grow incredibly sad and concerned. Being both a singer and songwriter, he crafted this beautiful song that touched the hearts of many fans who went through, or are going through, a similar experience growing up.
2. Love Of My Life
“Love Of My Life” has one of those sounds that makes you feel like you are floating off the ground. It’s one of those songs that you can play anywhere and everywhere. Whether that be going for a run, walking through an airport, or even just staring at your bedroom ceiling before you fall asleep, it's the perfect song to listen to for any occasion. Harry and his producers created a formula in which you can play this track over and over again, and still never get tired of it. To me, that’s more difficult than making a hit pop single, left abandoned after being overplayed, and maybe even becoming “corny.”
1. Fine Line
Fine Line, the closing track on Harry’s second album, wins the race for 1st place by a landslide. No questions asked. This song is more than just a musical masterpiece. It’s pure art. I can’t even begin to describe how breathtaking this song is. Picture this: you are witnessing the most beautiful sunset you have ever seen in your entire life. Fine Line would be the song playing in the background. Your plane is landing at your new destination. The view is absolutely gorgeous.
Fine Line would be the song. You just graduated from college, a moment you have been waiting for your entire life. Fine Line.
Fine Line.
Fine Line.
Fine Line.
Harry Styles' best song. Ever.
