A Hidden Gem For Indie Pop Fans: The Happy Fits
The Happy Fits are a very upbeat alternative to the indie genre, bringing note-filled songs to the table. Their songs stick as an earworm that you don’t mind having stuck in your head. Something unique about them is that they use cellos and violins in the majority of their songs since their lead singer, Calvin Langman, played the cello in high school.
The band formed in 2016 when high school friends Calvin Langman and Ross Monteith decided to play music together since Ross knew guitar. A bit later, they added another member, Luke Davis, to play drums. Calvin, Luke, and Ross released an EP during the summer before college. A little after starting college in late 2016, one of their songs was listed on Spotify’s playlist “Fresh Finds”, gaining 35,000 streams in a single day. Their sudden success led them to drop out of college, pursuing their musical career.
Further in time, Ross departed, and two more members joined, Nico Rose and Raina Mullen, both in charge of backing vocals and electric guitar. The first song released with the two new bandmates was “Everything You Do” on May 1st of this year. They recently also released a new album called “Lovesick”. This album has a daily stream of approximately 91,193 plays according to Kworb. The Happy Fits’ most-played song is “So Alright, Cool, Whatever” with 41.9 million streams on Spotify. Second ranked is “Too Late” with 41.4 million streams. Last on the podium is “She Wants Me (To Be Loved)” with a big number of 38.4 million streams.
The Happy Fits are a growing band and have a journey in their musical career to pursue as they advance in the indie pop music scene. They are personally one of Arya’s favorite bands, and she recommends you listen to them.
