“Marvel Zombies” (Rated TV-MA for gore) is the new animated Marvel series following the events of "What If" episode 5, season 1. In Ant-Man and the Wasp, Hank Pym tries to save his wife from the quantum realm. In this universe, she is infected by the quantum virus, making her a zombie, and they bring it back to Earth, infecting every human and hero. The story begins at the endgame with the remaining survivors: Spider-Man, Bucky Barnes, The Wasp, Happy Hogan, Bruce Banner (Hulk), Kurt, Sharon Carter and Okoye. They journey to find the location where they believe a cure is being developed. On the way, they lose Wasp, Happy and Sharon. Once there, they find Vision, Scott Lang and T’Challa are alive, but Vision has been luring survivors to feed his zombified love, Scarlet Witch. Vision realizes the error of his ways when Scarlet escapes her holding cell and causes chaos, so he pulls the infinity stone out of his head and sacrifices himself so the team can make a cure. While trying to escape, they lose Kurt and Okoye. Bucky is thrown away, and Hulk is last seen fighting Scarlet Witch, so we don’t know if they are infected yet. The remaining survivors—Spider-Man, T’Chala and Scott—get in an aircraft to go to Wakanda to make a cure. The final scene shows a zombified Thanos waiting at Wakanda with five of the six infinity stones.
“Marvel Zombies” takes place five years after the events of the episode and now mostly follows Ms. Marvel (Kamala Khan). This series was, at the very least, okay, but unnecessary jokes and gruesome deaths mainly ruined it for me. It kind of makes sense that the zombies kill now instead of infecting because all the zombies serve Scarlet Witch due to her powers, and she wants as few heroes and people left as possible. There were also unnecessary sacrifices, like Melina (Black Widow’s mom), who only closes a door, leaving herself with a horde of zombies and a zombified Okoye, when she could have closed it from the other side. A lot of people dislike the Moon Knight-Blade crossover, but I really liked him. I mainly love his scene where he and Ghost got into a sword fight. Ghost kept teleporting around him, but he blocked every blow with ease and stabbed her without even stealing a glance. There were two characters I loved in this show: Zombie Captain America and The Red Guardian. Cap was still cut in half from his battle with Bucky in the What If episode after getting sliced by his own shield. The Red Guardian was a funny and lovable character, but it was depressing when he got infected after eating a zombie corpse, thinking it was a chicken leg at Asgard. Their battle was cool. Cap was thrown into battle by the Abomination. The fight itself was nothing special—Guardian was losing to a man cut in half—but the way Cap moved with his shield to deflect gunshots was hilarious. The show ended on another cliffhanger with Ms. Marvel joining forces with Scarlet and the team getting infected, killed or captured. This was nothing special, but still good for being an unnecessary Disney show. Overall, I give this show a 7/10.
