Lunar New Year… A 15-day holiday where people celebrate good fortune for the New Year (Don’t forget resolutions!) During the Lunar New Year, many people may do traditions such as cleaning up houses to SWEEP out bad luck. People wear red and gold on Lunar New Year… “Why?” You may ask? Leave it to me! Red symbolizes luck, while gold represents fortune. Since many people like fortune and luck, they probably would like Red envelopes as another popular tradition, where you get money! This also symbolizes good luck and good wishes for the start of the year; they would probably do this one too. In China, people do fireworks to drive away evil. Man, if I was an evil spirit, I’d freak out when I hear one of those fireworks! People wear new traditional clothing, which symbolizes a new and fresh beginning. Finishing off…. We have…. The Lantern Festival, where people carry lanterns and rice balls, marks the end of the 15-day Lunar New Year celebration.
