The Assessment and Accountability department serves in various capacities for the district. We are guided by our BISD Assessment Guiding Document. Students take part in a wide array of assessment and testing programs throughout their academic journeys, from state-mandated exams to tests required for admission to many colleges and universities. Based on these assessments, data analysis and reporting occurs for the districts and campuses, and that data is utilized to make instructional decisions. Lastly, the district must monitor and ensure compliance with state and federal accountability. As well as, report accountability results to the community.
BISD offers opportunities for currently enrolled students to participate in acceleration examinations at different times during the school year. Students may register for acceleration examinations in advance through the campus school counselor. The criteria for credit and grade placement are based on legal and local district policies. Please discuss credit-by-exam opportunities with your student's counselor, as acceleration may not be appropriate for all students.
State of Texas Assessments of Academic Readiness (STAAR®) Interim Assessments are online assessments that align to the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) and help educators monitor student progress and predict student performance on STAAR. Students in grades 3-11 will participate in interim testing for Math, Reading, Social Studies and Science correlating to the STAAR/EOC test(s) the student will take during their school year.
Is an intentional way for teachers to assess students based on student’s progress and support the student in reaching their highest potential. BISD offers standards-based grading for grades K-3.
Is a comprehensive screener for Math and Reading that students in grades 1st-8th and Algebra I take a minimum of 3 times a year to measure students’ academic growth. This nationally normed test takes approximately 20 minutes to complete. Normed tests help teachers to know what your student knows on the day of the test compared to other students in the same grade level. This assessment is designed to be a personalized experience to identify what the student is ready to learn, so teachers can deliver “the right instruction, at the right time, for the right reason.”
Parent resources regarding state assessment may be viewed on the Texas Assessment website.
