BIOGRAPHY

Dr. Tiziano "Tizi" Bernard is an Italian aerospace engineer and pilot trained at Florida Institute of Technology. He earned his doctorate in 2018 under Dr. Lucas Stephane studying aerospace loss of control (LOC). In his research, Dr. Bernard performed cognitive modeling using virtual reality (VR) technologies to analyze the human component of LOC during critical phases of flight in general aviation.

In 2016, under the research guidance of flight test pilot Prof. Dr. Ralph D. Kimberlin, he received the first Masters degree in Flight Test Engineering from Florida Tech, studying the effects of flap configuration change on LOC.

In 2015 he completed a Bachelors degree in Aerospace Engineering with a Minor in Flight Technology under Dr. Daniel R. Kirk. Prior to university, Dr. Bernard attended the International School of Trieste, Italy.

He serves on the Scientific Advisory Board of the Applied Human Factors and Ergonomics International Conference for Space and ideated a new session entitled Human Factors in Space Tourism for 2019. As a graduate student Tiziano assisted the instructing of courses at both undergraduate and graduate levels in aerospace engineering, flight test engineering, and human-centered design and engineering. He is a strong proponent of STEM outreach and global citizenship through diversity.

In 2017 Dr. Bernard was awarded the Medal of the Government of Trieste (Italy) by Mayor Gr.Uff. Roberto Dipiazza for his efforts in the aerospace domain. In 2019 he was elected by FORBES Italy to the 30 under 30 list for science. He belongs to the Order of Merit of the Royal House of Italy and the Order of St. John of Jerusalem.
