Dear North Main Families:
As we wrap up September and move into October, I want to extend my heartfelt thanks for a wonderful start to the school year. Your support and enthusiasm have truly made a difference in our school community.
I also want to express my gratitude for your patience during the late bus dismissals. We are continuously working to improve our processes, and your understanding has been invaluable. Please continue to email nmattend@mw.k12.ny.us with any changes to your dismissal plans prior to 2:00 PM.
Looking ahead, I encourage you to join our school PTA if you haven’t already. Their dedication enriches our students’ experiences and fosters a strong school community. Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home”. Towards the end of the month, look out for PickAtime information to prepare for the parent-teacher conferences taking place in November. And don’t forget to mark your calendars for our annual Trunk or Treat event on October 30th! It’s a fantastic opportunity for families to come together for some festive fun. Dear North Main Families;
The North Main PTA is hosting the annual Trunk or Treat on Thursday, October 30, 2025. The PTA is accepting donations of closed bags of candy to distribute at the event. Donations are being accepted from Monday, October 6th through Wednesday, October 29th.
We are pleased to share that ALL of our students are invited to dress up for Halloween on Friday, October 31st! Students and staff may wear costumes, traditional dress representing their heritage or orange and black. Choosing to dress in costume, traditional dress or wearing orange and black is an option, but not required. If preferred, students may wear regular school attire.
Below are the guidelines for costumes to ensure everyone has a fun, safe day on Friday, October 31st.
Students who choose to wear a costume MUST:
Come to school dressed in the costume. They will not be able to change or add any makeup or accessories while at school. Costumes must fit easily over regular clothing.
Be able to manipulate their costume so they can move about freely and safely. Think: bathroom access, PE classes and play during outdoor recess.
Wear school appropriate costumes. No costume face masks, excessive face paint, hoods, props (ie. wands or weapons), or anything scary (ie. fake blood, fake blood pumps) are allowed.
If sharing goody bags, they must contain non-food items.
We look forward to a fun-filled Halloween with our students and staff!

The Distraction-Free Schools New York State law, which was passed as part of the 2026 state budget, aims to promote student mental health and student success by prohibiting student use of personal electronic devices from the time students arrive at school until dismissal. This law goes into effect at the start of the 2025-26 school year.
The law applies to students in grades UPK-12 and bans the use of smartphones, tablets, smartwatches, earbuds, wireless headphones, and other internet-enabled devices. School-issued devices are exempt and will continue to be an important instructional tool in the classroom.
At the Board of Education meeting on July 23, the Board approved the Students and Personal Electronic Devices Policy. This policy addresses how the law will be enforced in our schools, as well as exemptions and exceptions. Families may request an exemption under specific circumstances, such as for documented medical or disability reasons. If you believe your child qualifies for an exemption, please complete the online Exemption Request form. All requests will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis by the district's Exemption Review Committee. Submission of this form does not guarantee approval, but it is the first step in the review process.
