K-8 Computers
Class & Curriculum overview
Students will be guided through the Massachusetts Digital Literacy & Computer Science Frameworks for K-8.
"Meaningful participation in modern society requires fluency in the uses of, impact of, and ability to manipulate technology for living, learning, and working".
Over the course of their years in K-8, students will keep progressing through the content in grade level "spans": K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Within each grade span, standards are grouped in four strands or branches: Computing and Society, Digital Tools and Collaboration, Computing Systems, and Computational Thinking.
I strive to develop lessons and projects that cover what is required with the DLCS Frameworks while also trying to:
connect to the core teachers' curriculum content
be mindful of equitablity with the general student population of Edgartown
addresses timely "new tools" that have come out in the tech world, but only IF they are relevant and useful to students at each grade span
help students understand safety and netiquette best practices (constantly evolving)
So though I try to keep up with "what's new" in ever-changing Global computing, sometimes the best learning is done through trial & error, student discovery and class discussion. Students who try their best to "protect their right to learn" are successful in my class because they "treat others how they want to be treated" and are patient with themselves and others. These habits allow for successful learning for the group.
My technology "syllabus" (a work in progress) for grades 6-8 is here. It is linked into their Google Classroom area.
Students in grades 5-8 are graded twice a year. If you want to be invited into your child's "Google Classroom" area to observe some of the lessons and due dates, please let me know.

The link above is always changing. Some sites require students' school log-ins and class passcodes, but it gives you an idea of what they see when they come in for class each week.

About me
I moved to MV in 2002 after teaching technology for 7 years at schools in northern Mass, while getting my Master's Degree. I also have an art degree and like to draw when I have time. I live with my husband, 2 teen daughters, a dog and 2 cats. I love the beach and swim here about 6 months a year, even when it's chilly 🙂🧜
I also teach children & family Yoga. You can find me on FB & IG under: mvkidsyoga
