Pass Policy

All students coming to the library during the day, except seniors who are on release, should arrive with a completed and signed library pass. Please encourage students to use the library passes rather than the orange hall passes, as the library passes provide needed information to library staff.

All students, including seniors on release, must sign in at the circulation desk when they arrive at the library and sign out when they leave.

Study teachers should not generate more than 4-6 passes for study students. The study student may also come to your class with a pass already completed and signed by an academic teacher for whom the student needs to do work. You then initial that pass, and send the student to us.

A limited number of Study students who want to come to the library to check out a book/magazine, read, print, or work independently, will be welcome. The student may come on a pass from study teacher, and will be welcome for the period so long as there is available space in the Library Media Center. Preference on space will be given to students in the library with a class, or on a pass from an academic teacher to get work done. In the case that there is not enough room, study students will be asked to return to study after checking out their book/printing etc.

Lost/Damaged Book Policy

Library books: Students will be charged the price of the lost/damaged book. Come see the librarian to pay for anything that has been billed to your account. No other options are available.

Text books: Students will be charged the price of lost/damaged textbook/class set book that reflects the cost of the textbook. Students may pay this price to the school through the library OR they may find a "like new" copy of the same exact text (same edition, etc), purchase it themselves from a third party vendor, and bring it into school to offer as a replacement (so long as it meets the like new standards of the school (not water damaged, stained, highlighted, annotated etc.).

Mission Statement

It is the mission of the Merrimack Valley High School Library Media Center to provide all learners with the skills they need to be competent, critical, and ethical users and producers of information and ideas, in order to be successful participants in the 21st century. Students are encouraged, as life long learners, to pursue personal and educational inquiries as well as determine their information needs, locate relevant and credible information, and effectively communicate their findings. Fostering an interest in literature and respect for the pursuit and sharing of accurate information that extends into adulthood is a worthwhile pursuit.
