Landscape status: Very common in Midwest and found all the way from South Dakota to the whole east coast
Non-native look-alikes: Tropical milkweed (interferes with migration and reproduction)
Ideal planting conditions: low water, sandy soils, planted among other mid-sized perennials
Historic uses: All kinds of milkweed were used by Native Americans for medicinal purposes (reducing swelling, fevers, coughs, etc.), as well as in food.
