Welcome to the homepage of current happenings in the Service Learning program at Morrisville HS in Morrisville, PA.
Class overview
Beginning with the graduating class of 2023, all MHS Seniors are mandated to take a Service-Learning course. The course runs for one semester over two marking periods, and it requires the completion of a minimum of 20 hours worth of community service time and a culminating project.
The 2025 Spring Semester has two tracks:
Math & Reading Buddies
Courtyard Revitalization
The Math & Reading Buddies program places Seniors in a mentorship role with a cooperating teacher within the district to improve the attendance, academics and conduct of younger students. The research portion of the project focuses on the impact of mentorship and accountability in improving positive learning environments for achievement.
The Courtyard Revitalization program guides students to positively impact the school climate in beginning the process of restoring over 6000 square feet of the campus into an outdoor space for future classes. Additionally, students will construct, maintain and cultivate a food production garden to provide nutritious, fresh produce to a newly forming food bank in the district. The research portion of the project focuses on the nutritional value of fresh produce and the impact of food insecurity in the local community.
