Theia Motion Sensor

Weekly Progress

Week 1

We listened to each others ideas, and brained stormed different product ideas. We decided on a product for now and came up with ideas for it. Some other ideas were a coil of fence that fish and game can give out and it hooks on the tailgate of a truck. All the rancher has to do for the coil of fence is put post in the ground and pull the fence out. The idea we are going with is a device that will scare away deer and elk by making noise and flashing lights. We also talked to a rancher/farmer on what his ideas for our project was. We also 3D printed the first model of our project so we can have a visual.

Week 2

This week we talked with John from Fish and Game at the office in Jerome and asked him questions about elk problems in Idaho. We asked him the following questions: "Who was responsible for crop damage that the elk cause?" "How much do they have to pay for crop damage?" "On average how many fences are picked up a year?" "Is it only farmers and ranchers that complain about damage?" "Do you know how many elk are in the state of Idaho?"

2nd and 3rd printed Model

Instead of printing the Theia Motion Camera in one piece, we tried printing it in several pieces. The plastic didn't stick to the plate correctly, so it didn't end very well. It printed the pieces incorrectly, but we still got a lot done this week.

Mr. Johnson

We decided to talk to Mr. Johnson about how we could put together the box. We explained to him how we thought we would put it together. He suggested useing screws and screwing it together in the 4 corners and to maybe use metal. We are still decideing on how to put the box together.

3D Modle

We desided to make a new design of the camera. Jeremy and Anthony are working a new design on how to connect the lights, solar panels and other inside parts to the box. We hope this will be one of the final models.

Back From break

Christmas break has just ended. We are catching up and refreshing ourselves on what step we are on to finish the camera. We are desigdeing on how we want put together the box. We desided to get rid of the clamps and to find another way to put the box together.

Week 11

REdo of the design

We need to restart on the design this week. The one we had last week didn't save on Jeremy's chrome book so he is working on the new design. We desided to have the box in 2 seperate peices that slide together and then screw on the corners together.

week 12: Other steam projects

We had other projects we needed to do so we didn't have a chance to work on the project this week.

3d Printer

The base of the box keeps curling up.

DIscusions

We are talking about why the peices don't fit and how we can change the size to make them fit each other correctly.

Week 13

Measuring

Jeremy is mesuring another failed attempt at the box. He is trying to figure out is we can print the box the size we need it. The 3D printer is too small to print it the size we need it, so now we are figureing out a position that might work to print.

3D printer

This is one part of the model and the screws before we took it out of the printer.

Week 14

More help

We had Mrs. Morreti come in and help us figure out the design of the box. We desided to make it much smaller and to make the camera a sensor instead of a camera. We also desided to change the shape and take away the spikes and strap.

We are going to ditch the trail cam and to find a sound that bothers the elk but so humans can't hear it. We are looking for a motion sensor, light, and solar panle.
