Newfoundland and Labrador Biodiversity Report

A comprehensive view of the wildlife of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The Newfoundland and Labrador Biodiversity Report was created by a group of Biology students from Memorial University of Newfoundland in 2019. This report is the first of its kind for Newfoundland and Labrador, providing members of the province with a comprehensive guide to the living species that share the land.

Our Province, Our Wildlife, Our Fight

In Newfoundland and Labrador we have always lived on the edge of nature. Our heritage and our traditional way of life have always been dependent on hunting, fishing and trapping. This makes the interest of the species that live in our province OUR interest. Our report has shown that there is a drastic decline in many species population numbers in our Province since the 1900's. Newfoundland and Labradorians need to act now to reverse this decline and maintain the integrity of our beautiful and unique wildlife. People from all over the world are drawn to Newfoundland and Labrador to see our rich marine wildlife and vast boreal forests. A legacy this big and global must be protected at all costs.

This is OUR Province. Let's do all we can to protect its wildlife.
