On February 24nd, 2022, Putin announced a special military operation in Ukraine. To most of the world, it became obvious that it was an attempt to annex Ukraine. For most of Russia though, it was the opposite.
Widespread propaganda and censorship plagued Russian media, convincing a large portion of the population that it was not a war, and was justified. Those who saw through it however, took to the streets protesting.
Thousands of people were arrested, which brought more awareness to the situation. Many more people began protesting, bringing global awareness to the situation.
Sanctions were quickly put in place, leading to the Russian ruble collapsing in value. Again, more protests took place.
Recently, Putin announced mobilization of 300,000 reserves, who are military veterans that have already moved on in their lives. There were soon miles long lines of cars at the Georgian and Finnish border, filled with people trying to escape the draft.
Recently, Finland closed their borders to Russia, which will force people to go to Georgia to escape the draft.
Since the beginning of the war, many oligarchs who denounced the war have faced suspicious deaths, with the one of the most absurd being falling out of a hospital window.
With even his closest ring of people turning on Putin, it is becoming obvious his regime can’t last for much longer.
