Andrew Tate, a misogynistic online personality was recently arrested in Romania on charges of human trafficking and rape. His appeal to the court against asset seizures by prosecutors was denied. What had a former kickboxer done to land him in such a place?
Tates rise to fame started in 2016 when he was removed from a British TV show, Big Brother, and a video surfaced where he was seen attacking a woman. Afterwards, he increased in popularity after he started to create misogynistic content on the internet.
He created and joined many “alpha podcasts”, where many incel men gather together to share sexist and transphobic views. His main business model is to have other people create videos of his podcasts so that thousands of people can spread his ideas over multiple social media platforms. He created many informational platforms and schools, where he would teach men to “break free from the matrix” and “be free”, where men no longer need to succumb to the cruel hands of capitalism. Rather ironic considering the producers of The Matrix confirmed that it was an allegory to being trans.
Some of his schools include the “War Room”, a program where you could spend 5 454 dollars to learn exclusively about his philosophy and “Hustlers University” for 50 dollars a month, where you can learn about how to make money. Other lines of merchandise include his clothing shop, where you can buy a t-shirt for 100$, or two mugs for 139 dollars. As you can see, very cheap, and very much helping young men break free from the matrix and giving them financial freedom.

His own social media accounts were banned on Instagram, Facebook, Tiktok and Youtube, under violation of their terms and conditions and for spreading misogynistic ideology. He was also originally banned on Twitter, but reinstated by Elon Musk after he had taken over the platform.
Before the new year began, Andrew Tate tried to gain relevance back again after falling out of trend. He had sent a mocking tweet to Greta Thumberg, telling her to give him her email so that he could send the “enormous emissions” of his “33 cars”. Essentially, to mock climate change activism. In response, the 19-year-old Swedish activist sent a tweet insulting his philosophy and telling him to “get a life”. Greta was able to get the last laugh right after Tate was arrested in Romania.

Since April 2022, Romanian officials have been investigating Tate and his brother's house, and as of December 30, 2022, both were arrested for exploiting women and forcing them to film non-consensual videos. Police alleged that the victims originally had misrepresented their intentions to get into a romantic relationship with Tate, and then later forced to create sexual content under threat of violence.
After a month of imprisonment, Tate has broken the silence and started sending tweets and emails online. In one such tweet, he states that “ They are trying to break me.”, where he was “thrown inside a cell with no light”, where “cockroaches, lice and bed bugs are his only friends at night”.
Seems like Tate has brought out the poet inside of him while in jail.
