Tennis star Novak Djokovic, a 20-time Grand slam champion, was deported from the Australian open in January, because of his refusal to attain his Covid-19 vaccination and subsequent failure to report a positive COVID test result while travelling. The Australian government had canceled his visa and placed in a hotel room to attend a court hearing scheduled days after the remark. Djokovic went on to succeed in the hearing and eventually win his case. However, one week prior to the Australian Open, he had been deported by the Australian transport minister and was unable to be in Australia. Just recently, Djokovic had come out and expressed his opinions to the media through an interview with the BBC. The world’s second best had expressed his views and had said that he thought of getting the vaccine but had declined the decision and therefore will be missing the French open and Wimbledon. “Missing competitions like the French open over my jab status is the price I am willing to pay” Djokovic had said. Other than Novak Djokovic, other sports players are also reluctant to get the vaccine and along with Djokovic, are willing to pay the price for their unwillingness.
Many other people are also declining the vaccine, such as the people protesting here in Canada over their “freedom”. The Freedom Convoy in Canada has been going on for about a month already, and so far it has been a disaster for many, as they protested on the streets of Ottawa, and were making huge disruptions at night, affecting the entire community. It was so bad that the police in Ottawa couldn't handle it and they had to call for backup from other provinces. So far over 170 people have been arrested, and the organizers of this event have been detained for "counselling to commit the offence of mischief, counselling to obstruct police and counselling to commit the offence of disobeying a court order", This has been a bad influence for other countries with vaccine mandates, and now some other countries have now been starting their own freedom convoys. The freedom protesters have now fled Ottawa but they are heading for other places next. On social media, they have said they are going to target British Columbia next, but there is no further information regarding that topic after that remark. “This has gone too far” said former attorney Keith Wilson as he slams Justin Trudeau for not taking much action. “We need to take more action and stop this problem”.
