By now we probably all know what’s happening in Ukraine. It’s all over the news, but there is one part no one seems to have paid attention to. On March 2nd, 2 Russian Sukhoi Su-24 bombers and 2 Sukhoi SU-27 fighter planes took off from Kaliningrad, violating EU airspace by flying into Sweden.
What makes this more terrifying is that the 2 bombers were armed with nuclear weapons. In response, Sweden launched 2 JAS-39 Gripen fighter jets to intercept them. The Russian aircraft stayed in Swedish airspace for over a minute before turning back.
This incident occurred one day after Russia threatened to take military action if Sweden or Finland joined NATO, which doesn’t seem like a coincidence. On April 3rd, both Sweden and Finland had begun to take significant steps towards joining NATO- regardless of the threats issued by Russia.
Had either side decided to fire on each other, or engage in combat, we could be facing nuclear fallout as far as Canada.
