2021-2022 Issue 3
Introduction:
In 2010, General Motors’ gas guzzling Hummer brand came to an unceremonious end after an unsuccessful attempt to sell the brand to a Chinese manufacturer. General Motors (GMC) decided to discontinue the Hummer brand because of its insane gas usage and declining sales. In 2022 however, the Hummer name will be returning as an all electric vehicle brand.
Meet the Hummer EV:
The EV Hummer will be coming with many features new to the car industry such as crab walking- the car has the ability to move sideways, made possible by all four wheels pivoting in the same direction. Although the Mercedes AVTR already has the crab walk feature, it will never hit the road as the Mercedes AVTR is too dangerous to drive. The Hummer EV pickup truck will have an Infinity Roof- a massive glass roof with modular sky panels which is detachable.
As the Hummer brand was originally a company selling civilian versions of the U.S. Military humvees, Hummer’s are usually good at off-roading. The new EV Hummer brings an extreme off roading capability as according to GMC “Off-road dominance is engineered into every aspect of the Hummer EV”. The new EV Hummer’s will have independent front and rear suspensions that enable remarkable off-road handling. It even comes with a full armoured underbody to protect the Hummer in extreme conditions, the armoured underbody contains an additional battery to be used in emergency situations.
The EV Hummer will also adjust its height for better aerodynamics. The new Hummer will be able to travel approximately 400 km per charge. The vehicle will be available starting in 2022.
