On March 30, Adam Gaudette had gotten COVID-19. The Canucks organization had found out that an unnamed individual, went to a place within the guidelines and that place was discovered to have cases of COVID, starting the outbreak. This then ended up affecting 21 Canucks players and 4 staff members, so far.
6 of the games were postponed and soon after another 5 games the Canucks were supposed to play were postponed. So far they have only played 37 out of 56 games. The Canucks and the NHL say that they do want the players and the staff to come back to play and finish the regular season once the Public Health says that it is okay. The 56 game season is still the main focus. "The health and safety of players, staff, families and the greater community remain the utmost priority," said the Canucks in a CBC article.
"Rapid spread of infection throughout the team indicates a link between contacts and the primary case." Canucks statement on CBC article. On Friday, the NHL and the NHL players association met up to talk about the next steps moving forward so the players could play most of the rest of the season. "We're following the curve like every other curve where we had a peak in cases … and it's starting to slow down. So we're moving away from the new infection phase to dealing with the infection phase, to starting with recovery." Bovard says in a CBC article. The Canucks are following COVID protocols and are staying in individual quarantine spaces.
