Mr. Riffel

Hello Marauders!! I am excited for my second year at Mingus Union High School!! This makes my 9th year teaching in the Verde Valley. I have had the pleasure of teaching at a number of different schools including CCS (formally CMS) and MVP. I have a passion for Math that I hope to be able to share with you, or at the very least, to make math a less scary topic. In addition to Math class, this year I will be teaching the Physics class. This is an exciting extension of my teaching, and I am looking forward to all of the amazing connections that I will be able to help students make between Physics and the real world.

Before I started a life of education, I was in the Navy for 5 years where I was a nuclear qualified electrician aboard a fast attack submarine. My job was to help operate the nuclear reactor, and to ensure the readiness of all the electrical equipment on the boat. After my time in the Navy, I moved to Arizona and went to Yavapai College where I completed the general education courses necessary to earn my Bachelors of Science in Nuclear Engineering. Since then I have continued on my education and have earned a Masters of Science in Business as I hope to own my own business someday.

I have two sons, ages 6 and 10. My 7 year old, Douglas, will be in 2nd grade this year and my10 year old Ethen, will be in in 5th grade. They are also excited to play soccer this year. My wife, Andrea, is an academic advisor at Yavapai College. When we are not in school, we love to play basketball in our backyard, build forts out of couch cushions (sometimes I let my boys help), and watch movies with my family.

This summer we took a trip to Utah to visit family to explore many of the different sites there. We also when to Pagosa Springs, Co for a week of relaxation and hiking. This Summer I got my second set of chickens. oops. I now have 11 chickens made up of 5 different breeds. I am expecting 8-10 eggs a day when they finally do decide to start.
