Students will bring home their syllabus and permission slip at the start of the school year. A parent signature is required, and you must select if you do or do not allow your student to read and/or watch any of the assigned anchor texts/films.
English 9 students will read a variety of texts this year, including short stories, poetry, plays, novels, articles, journals, and more. Students will write letters, narratives, essays, journals, literary analyses, and more! Follow along this year on my website for detailed assignments and due dates.
INBOX: Students should turn in work that's completed on the due date into the INBOX drawer labeled with their class period.
LATE WORK: Better late than never is my motto! Students should turn LATE WORK into the LATE WORK basket. Assignments will not be accepted if they are more than one week late. Exceptions will be made for extended student absences. Points are deducted for late work, but some points are better than no points!
ABSENT: When a student is absent, they need to access my website calendar or check the classroom agenda to see what they missed and then check with me. Each day absent = 1 day the student has to make up the missing work. Students need to write ABSENT and the date(s) at the top of the page and turn it into the LATE WORK basket.
NO NAMES: A basket for assignments with NO NAME work is designated near the INBOX. Students should look through this basket if they turn in an assignment and notice it's marked missing in the gradebook. If they find their work in the NO NAMES basket, they should add their name and class period, and move it to the LATE WORK basket.
PORTFOLIOS: Student work is collected and safely stored in my classroom in student portfolios. Students can check their portfolios during office hours or designated class time.
The 9th Grade English Calendar is a working document, so changes are regularly being made to it as I modify and adjust my lessons to meet student needs.

Not all assignments are posted in Google Classroom for students to complete. I do try to post most assignments for students with extended absences who need to stay caught up.
