Nice to meet you!

My name is Lauren Thagard and I am entering my 9th year as a teacher here at Mingus! I'm a Verde Valley native having grown up just up the road in Sedona. I graduated from Red Rock High School and then moved to Tucson where I completed my bachelor degree at the University of Arizona before getting my Master's Degree Secondary Education with Grand Canyon University.

I began my teaching career in Memphis, TN in 2011 before moving back to Arizona in 2013 and starting at Mingus. I've been an Algebra 1 teacher for most of my years at Mingus and have loved it. I spent last year in CEC where I was able to help support the many students who were working to get back on track with their credits, but am really glad to be back in the classroom and taking on my first group of seniors in a few years!

When I'm not teaching, my husband and I love camping, hunting, and DIYing around our house. We welcomed a baby boy in May 2020 and he has been so much fun and is such a great addition to our family. I have two step-kids who both graduated from Mingus; my step-daughter lives in Phoenix where she works full-time and is working on her degree. My step-son is in the Air Force and will be completing a year long tour in South Korea and his wife will come back to Cottonwood while he's away. They are expecting their first baby (and our first grandbaby!) in November and then will be relocating to Nellis Air Force base in Las Vegas when he returns next year.
