Communication

The best way to contact me is through email or lass dojo.  I will try to get back with you by 4PM, responding usually 1x per day.  I am pretty busy throughout the day and do want to be engaging in teaching our students.  The times I will be most available are:

7:30-9:00 (not 8-8:15)

3:15-4  Most days, unless one of my kiddos has a school sporting event I need to get to quickly

I have two of my own children, a college freshman and high school freshman. My youngest is very involved in his school and sports in Republic, where my family resides, so my evenings are filled with cheering them on, time with my husband, and our two dogs.  I will not answer most days after 4 PM, as I have that guarded to keep myself and family healthy. Thank you for respecting that :)

Email:  fisherlauren@mtvernon.k12.mo.us

Phone:  466-2312, ext 3300.  During the day our phones are on silent, to not disrupt teaching, so please leave a message-your name, your child's name, and the best number to call you back.  I make most calls after school or  between 8:15 and 9.

Hello families!

Thank you to everyone who helped build our BBQ basket for Fun Night! We had so much brought it, making it a great help for fund raising efforts for the school. Thank you, again!

We are so near the end of the year already! It has flown by! We will  continue with stories, vocabulary, and spelling through May 17ish. The same with math- we are finishing strong in Room 300!  Please be sure to make attendance a priority.  Map testing is May 7-8 for us. We will test all day on those two days, taking a break from the regular routine, then jump back in on Thursday with normal things. Normalcy helps keep everyone focused and strong!

I  have a Teachers Pay Teachers, TpT, class fund, if you would like to donate to our learning tools:  https://www.teacherspayteachers.com/ClassFund/Lauren-Fisher-58307?ownCampaign=&utm_campaign=ClassFundShare

I have a wish list on Amazon of items that are needed/ wanted to help curb the out of pocket cost for me throughout the year. The items on here will change once in a while, so if you want to donate to our class, just check this link from time to time:  https://amzn.to/3XCb5K9

Scholastic Class Code:  NCND8

This will be link sent out each week-ish with updates on what is happening in our class, so please check it when it gets pushed out to you to keep up to date on what our kiddos are learning.  The spelling/phonics sound will be posted here, when we are having what assessments, and more.   Let's get started!  This first one is long, it will get shorter as the year progresses because you will be in the know :).

PLEASE send a water bottle with your child EACH day.  We encourage students take their water bottles home each night to be washed, to keep germs at bay and for overall health.

Math

Unit 6 is almost done. The kiddos are doing pretty good with shape attributes, area, and perimeters.  We will be assessing on Thursday, April 18, just before the long weekend.  When we return we will begin in Unit 7, working on word problems, fractions, and more multiplication.

Practice those facts! We have done the x2, x5, and x10 assessments.  Coming  up next will be the x3 and x4 and /3, /4.  We will do 2-3 different fact assessments per week until we get through 9s.

Spelling and Reading

Phonics Skill

Inflectional suffixes

peaches, protecting, stacked, wanted, dresses, foxes, walking, cried, opened, fixing, wants, staying, finishes, stayed, looks, spilling, played, boxed, reading, catches

If you kiddos ask how to spell a word at home, before telling them, ask them to "tap it out" they will be impressed that you know that but then they can show you how they tap out the sounds, to listen for how to spell the words!  It really works!

Reading Skill

The Journey: Stories of Migration.

The kids LOVE this unit because it is about real animals and they LOVE learning about animals. Because this is a non-fiction text twe will work on comparing and contrasting, visualization, and author's word choice.

Reading Time

Fourth quarter has two challenge options for the kids- there is a school wide Bingo challenge, for the kids to get a blackout on the 3rd grade bingo card, or my 10 book challenge. I am giving them the option of the challenge the choose. The bingo card limits what they can read more than the 10 book challenge. They are able to do one or the other, but I have some kiddos who want to do both- and the books they can count on both cards in some instances! I absolutely love the love for reading they have developed this year. They have really taken to some particular genres and favorite authors. I love this SO much!

Language Arts and Writing

Grammar Skill

We are working on complex sentences. We will also be doing review work off and on.

Writing Skill

The grammar skill spills over nicely into our writing unit we will be doing for the remainder of the year- a creative writing project- they will write a story, 5 paragraphs with at least 5 sentences in each. They will get to illustrate their story and share it with the class.  I am excited for these stories, as I have read their brainstorming and their initial order of ideas with a plot, problem, and solution.

Hand Writing

I am really encouraging the kids to really take their time when forming letter and forming them properly- whether in print or cursive. There are a few still writing circle stick, some doing bottom up progression, backwards letters due to not practicing well (they know when they write backwards and can go back and correct it),not using the lines, and writing capital letters in the middle of words and on non-proper noun words.  All of these things will begging to be counted off for, as they should be writing their letters cleaner. I may add in some more handwriting practice and take grades on it, so we can read their writing a little easier.

Science and Social Studies

The rest of the year is about Missouri. We are currently working on Missouri History- how and why our state was formed.
