Screencastify
Screencastify allows you to record instructional videos for your students.
Step #1
Install the Screencastify extension
Step #2
Decide how you will record your lesson
You have 4 options on how you can record your lesson. See below for information on each of them.
When you are ready to record, click the Screencastify extension button in your Google Chrome browser, choose your options, and press 'record'. When you are done recording, go back to that same button and choose 'stop'.
β Option #1
Recording a lesson with the webcam facing you at the computer

β Option #2
Recording a lesson with the webcam facing the SmartBoard
Click here to watch the video full screen.
If you are using this setup, your SmartBoard screen will show a 'picture in picture'... which may be distracting if you enlarge your webcam video.
If you want to avoid this, you could do one of the following:
Keep your projector off and start recording your lesson intro, then turn the projector on when you are ready to begin your lesson.
During your lesson intro, use the 'blank' button on your projector remote so that the projector 'looks' like it is off
During your lesson intro, use the source or input button on your projector remote so that the projector screen shows a different display. Change it back to the 'computer' option when you are ready to start your lesson.

β Option #3
Recording a lesson without the webcam
If you prefer to have your students hear you, but not see you, then just be sure to turn off the webcam in the Screencastify settings before you record your lesson.
Students will now only see your lesson.
β Option #4
Recording a video using only your webcam
If you just need a video of you talking (such as a morning message) you can choose the webcam only option
π‘ Using Your Webcam
Embed your webcam into a tab or desktop recording to add a personal touch to your recorded lessons.
You can turn your webcam on and off throughout your recording as much as you like.
Simply click the webcam icon in your annotation toolbar to toggle your webcam on and off during your recording. Note that your recording must begin with the embedded webcam and/or microphone turned on for this icon to appear in the annotation toolbar.
** Once you start a recording with your webcam embedded, you can drag it anywhere in your tab during the recording or resize it by dragging the corner of the webcam preview.
Step #3
Edit your video OR 'Share to Classroom'
π Editing Your Video
Once your video has been created, it will open up in a Screencastify window. You can preview the video here.
At the top, RENAME your file
If you want to EDIT the video, click the OPEN IN EDITOR button at the top
Once you are done editing the file, Export it to Google Drive
After it is exported, click the VIEW button and you can choose to 'Share to Classroom.
Watch the video to see how to record, edit, and share your video
π Share Your Video Right Away
If you do not need to edit your video, you can choose 'Share to Classroom'.
You can share the video with multiple classes (after you initially choose one class, you can then go in and add others)
