Gimkit
- Gimkit is a quiz style learning game where students earn virtual money to purchase various power-ups.
- Power-ups include earning more points per question answered correctly, gaining additional points when on a “streak,” and purchasing insurance for the chance that a question is answered incorrectly.
- You can create your own question 'kits' or search for pre-made ones.
- Reports show overall class and individual student responses.
👉 Create a Class
Step 1: Teacher Directions
Go to www.gimkit.com and log in with your Mt Sinai Google account
On the left, choose CLASSES
At the top-right, click NEW CLASS
Fill out the name and color, click CREATE CLASS.
Once your class is created, click the COPY LINK button (this will copy the web address for your class)
Open Google Classroom and post the link so that students can JOIN your Gimkit class
Step 2: Student Directions
Open Google Classroom
Click on the Gimkit class link that your teacher posted
Click JOIN WITH GOOGLE - Continue to login with your Mt Sinai Google account
You will now be a part of the Gimkit class
👉 'Kit' Options:
A 'Kit'' has your lesson questions...
Use either a pre-made kit or make your own questions
Option 1: Search for a 'Kit'
At the top-right, click SEARCH KITS
Type in a keyword and press ENTER (such as Improper Fractions)
Results were appear on the left side. You will see how many questions each kit has. With the way Gimkit is played, the more questions the better.
If you rest your computer mouse over a kit on the left side, you can then preview the questions to the right (scroll thru to see all the questions)
When you find a kit that you like, click on it to view all of the questions/answers
Click COPY to save the kit to your account
When you COPY a kit, it will be added to your saved kits. You can then go to the kit and EDIT the questions to customize it for your students.
Once you are ready to use the kit, refer to the GAMEPLAY directions below.
Option 2: Create a 'Kit'
On the left, choose KITS.
At the top-right, click NEW KIT.
Fill out the kit name, etc. and press NEXT.
You will now be in your kit and can start adding your questions.
Choose from the following types:
Multiple Choice
Text Input
Flashcard (Gimkit generates incorrect answers for you or you can also import from other sites such as Quizlet)
Question Bank
Be sure to select the correct and incorrect answers. You can also add a photo and/or audio.
Once all questions have been added, click ALL DONE.
👉 Gameplay
Play a 'live' game or assign your Kit as homework
Option 1: Play a 'Live' Game in Class
On the left, choose KITS
Find a kit and click PLAY LIVE
Choose a game...
Games are organized by ‘Featured’, ‘2d Modes’, ‘Fun Picks’ or ‘Classic Twists’
To learn how a game works, select it and choose LEARN MORE
You can also search the game in YouTube to see how it plays out.
Don't worry too much about how to play as your students will figure it out!
Then click CONTINUE to get started
Choose your game options and click CONTINUE
A game code will appear
Students should go to Gimkit.com and enter the code (Gr 1-6 can click the Chromebook app on their laptop)
Since students are in your Gimkit class, they should be automatically logged in
Option 2: Assign HW
Allows students to play Gimkit on their own time . Assignments are auto-saved, so if a student closes it or leaves and comes back, they should be brought back to where they were before.
On the left, choose KITS
Find a Kit and click ASSIGN HW
Select your game and click CONTINUE
Choose the due date, class, etc. and click CONTINUE
Then click COPY LINK and post the link in your Google Classroom for students to access it
** On the left, click ASSIGNMENTS to view your assignments, view results, etc.
👉 Reports
On the left, choose KITS.
Find a kit and click the '3 dots in a circle' button. Choose REPORTS.
Then on the right side, click a report to view it
Click on a student’s name to get more details
On the left side, you can also run a 'General Overview' or 'Question Breakdown' report
HW Reports
If you assign Gimkit as HW, do the following to track student progress...
On the left, choose ASSIGNMENTS.
