Rising 9th Grade Placement Reminders
Honors Placement Assessments
In February, all 8th graders interested in honors-level ELA and/or Social Studies will complete placement assessments during their regular classes.
Assessment Dates:
ELA: February 9–10
Social Studies: February 11–12
Make-up: February 18
Honors Requirements:
English 9 Honors:
93% average in 8th grade Language Arts (MP1 & MP2)
Score of "Advanced" on the ELA pre-assessment
World Studies Honors:
93% average in both 8th grade Language Arts AND Social Studies (MP1 & MP2)
Score of "Advanced" on both pre-assessments
What if my student doesn't meet all requirements?
Students with at least a 90% average and a score of at least 70% on the assessment(s) may apply for a waiver in the spring. Waiver decisions consider additional factors including MP3 grades and recent NJSLA performance.
How should my student prepare?
Both assessments are multiple-choice and measure critical thinking through various readings. There's no need for special preparation - encourage your student to get a good night's sleep and do their best.
