This year I have 3 sections of Supplemental Reading, and 2 sections of English. All assignments are posted for the students on Google classroom. My after school help day is Tuesdays in B1104 or by appointment.
Course Descriptions:
Supplemental Reading: This course is designed to provide targeted support for students in developing essential reading skills necessary for success across the curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on improving comprehension, vocabulary development, reading fluency, and analytical thinking through structured practice and exposure to a variety of texts. The course aims to strengthen students’ academic literacy and foster greater confidence and independence as readers.
Replacement English: This course supports students with language-based learning differences in developing their reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills. Instruction emphasizes vocabulary development, reading comprehension, written expression, and grammar through structured, scaffolded lessons. Students engage with high-interest texts and targeted activities to strengthen literacy skills, build confidence, and promote success in academic and real-world communication.
English 11: Heroes, Villains, and Monsters
This course explores literature through the lens of heroes, villains, and monsters across time and cultures. Students will read and analyze novels, plays, short stories, and poetry to examine how societies define good and evil, courage and fear, and the boundaries of humanity. Writing assignments and class discussions will focus on critical analysis, argumentation, and personal reflection, helping students strengthen their reading, writing, and communication skills while engaging with timeless questions about character and morality.
