GNED stands for General Education - these courses allow you to gain depth and stretch your breadth of knowledge. They are multi-disciplinary allowing you to develop an understanding from across different fields and may even help you find new areas of interest! These courses create the opportunity for a customized degree and a way to meet people outside of your program. These classes are organized into 4 clusters, with each having 3 tiers. Electives are similar to GNED Courses but you have more freedoms and portions with course selection. The amount of electives that you can take varies depending on your program.

There are a wide range of assessments that you may encounter in your courses. You can find some examples of the types of assessments you will be asked to complete here. Some of these assessments will be graded or ungraded. Additionally, you may be expected to complete your work individually or in a group with your peers.
For each hour of class time per week, it is recommended that students have 2-3 hours of studying time. Most courses at MRU are 3 hours per week, so juggling your time between school, work, and social commitments may be a skill that you need to develop. Here are some helpful tips:
Create a Semester Calendar
Input all your existing commitments - outside of post-secondary study
Add your assignment deadlines, test dates, and any other important dates
This will help you identify your pressure and pinch points, allowing you to prepare for weeks with heavier commitments
Set up a weekly calendar
Can be either paper or digital
You have access to Google Calendar through your MRU email
Academic Support:
Your instructor is the first person you should go to because it is their course and their assignments

In post-secondary, you need to be more particular with crediting, formatting, and tracking your sources. Some examples of academic misconduct are when students do not cite property or cheat - either deliberately or unintentionally. It takes courage to act within the values of academic integrity!
