Meet Our Teachers

Jocelyn Foran

Jocelyn is the Science specialist on Team Apex. She began teaching at Mt. Abe in 2009, and received a master’s degree in environmental studies and science education from Antioch University, New England. Prior to that she spent a number of years as an environmental educator working for organizations such as the Appalachian Mountain Club and the Chewonki Foundation. She received her undergraduate degree from Syracuse University. Jocelyn, her husband and their twin daughters live in Lincoln where they enjoy hiking, biking, and exploring the brook behind their house.

Nan Guilmette

Nan is the English Language Arts specialist on Team Apex. After attending the University of Georgia, Nan started her teaching career as an English teacher in a Japanese public high school. Afterwards, she attended Harvard University for graduate school. She taught special education for a year in a charter school in the Boston area, but quickly moved back to Vermont so that her husband, who is not a fan of the big city, could move back to his home state. Nan began teaching at Mt. Abraham in 2007, and she and her husband and two children are proud to call Monkton their home.

Betsy Rippner

Betsy, Team Apex's Social Studies specialist, grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and earned her B.A. at the University of Michigan. She then moved to the Northeast and lived and worked in Boston before going to graduate school (University of Massachusetts, Amherst) to become a Social Studies teacher. She moved to Vermont to teach Middle School at Mt. Abe and currently lives in Bridport. Betsy loves Mt. Abraham because of the great people, both colleagues and students, that she gets to work with on a daily basis. She has seen many changes (especially with regard to technology), has been a part of several team configurations, and is very excited to be a part of the new Team Apex.
