Course Description

Geology of the Human Environment Laboratory - Exercises in the scientific method applied to earth materials and their impact on society.

Key teaching duties

The key teaching duties that I performed while instructing this class included:

  • Assisted in lesson assessment development
  • Instructed students in basic principles of scientific inquiry and generation of hypotheses
  • Instructed and assisted students in creation of a hypothesis they would test to provide results as a semester long project
  • Instructed introductory labs on the topics of:
    • Field observation
    • Use of Excel for data processing and interpretation
    • Permeability and porosity of surface soils and rocks
    • Sediment size distribution
    • Surface water chemistry
    • Aquatic macroinvertebrates
    • Riparian zone ecology
