My name is Christian Parkinson. I am an Assistant Professor in the Departments of Mathematics and Computational Mathematics, Science and Engineering at Michigan State University.
From Fall 2020 - Spring 2024, I was a Postdoctoral Associate in the Mathematics Department at the University of Arizona. I was there as part of the Research Training Group in Data Driven Discovery. My mentor was Shankar Venkataramani.
Before that, I received my doctorate in Applied Mathematics from UCLA, where I studied level set methods and applied optimal control theory under the advice of Andrea Bertozzi and Stan Osher. And before that I received my undergraduate and master's degrees in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the Colorado School of Mines, where I wrote a thesis analyzing an in-host model for viral dynamics under the advice of Steve Pankavich.

Outside of work, I love cooking, reading fiction, watching movies, playing retro video games (especially SNES and N64), exploring craft breweries, competing in trivia contests, traveling the world, and cheering on the Los Angeles sports teams (Go Rams/Dodgers/Angels/Lakers!).
