More on borrowing items from our library
Create a login for your MSP library account to keep track of your items! That way, you can do your own renewals if no one is waiting for the item. Otherwise, please contact the library staff to renew items prior to or on the day items are due. Renewals can be made in person, by phone at (248) 476-1122 x114, or by contacting the library.
Current students, faculty, and staff may place hold requests for items. We email individuals when materials on hold become available. If necessary, faculty may recall checked-out items for instructional purposes.
The intent of our circulation policies is to promote equitable access to all MSP community members! When items are not returned on time, it affects our ability to share them with other borrowers. To ensure access...
We send a due date reminder notice to the borrower’s MSP email
We send an overdue notice to the borrower’s MSP email if items have not been returned by the due date
We consider suspending a student’s borrowing privileges in certain cases
We assess fines automatically on each overdue item but will cap them once the student returns the overdue items and pays the accrued fines using the library’s online form.
When an item has been overdue on a student’s library account for a number of days (21 days - General Circulation, 7 days - Restricted Circulation), we consider it “lost” and refer the matter to the MSP Director of Student Services/Registrar. At that point, fines stop accruing on the student’s library account, and we reinstate the student’s borrowing privileges.
We provide the Director of Student Services/Registrar with charges to be added to the student’s account that reflect the accrued library fines plus the replacement cost of the item. These charges must be paid before the next registration period begins. A student who locates and returns a lost item to the library will still owe the accrued library fines but will not be charged the item’s replacement cost.
We encourage MSP alumni to contact library staff directly for assistance or consultation. Circulation of library materials is limited to current MSP students, faculty, and staff. Our electronic resources are accessible to our users by logging into a verified MSP Gmail account.
