What is Securly?
Securly, in a nutshell, is our web filter. It does much more than that though. So please hang tight as we chat about a few elements.
Securly allows teachers to temporarily unblock a website. You can also use the lookup tool to see what websites are blocked prior to a class activity. These tools should help a lot for planning as well as any last minute emergencies.
Parents can see student activity with Securly. They merely need to activate their accounts. The email address they supply to the office staff gets placed into PowerSchool. That email address gets tied to the student accounts and generates reports. If they did not submit an email address or it is inaccurate, that would be why they aren't receiving reports.
You have access to a separate filtering tool called Securly Classroom. This tool will allow you to set block lists, see open tabs on devices, and use a private chat tool between you and the student.
- Need to unblock a website?
You have the ability to temporarily unblock a website for a total of 120 minutes. Please keep in mind that when you do this, you are unblocking the website for all students that have an msdsc.us account. (This includes kindergarten through seniors.) You have two options to accomplish this listed below:
From a Student device
The student can send you an email requesting access to a website.
Securly Lookup tool
You can access the Securly Lookup Tool to determine if a website is blocked in advance or unblock it temporarily.
Please only use these options for educational purposes. Students should not gain access to anything that may violate the Acceptable Use Policy.
2. Securly Parent Portal
Securly also has a parent portal. Please direct interested parents to the Digital Citizenship page on the MSDSC Technology Department website. This is different than the one you are currently accessing. This page is for the community and resides on each building website.
3. Securly Classroom
You can run Securly Classroom sessions to help you set your own filter within the walls of your classroom.
Get started by accessing the Securly Device Console in the MSDSC Bookmarks.
