Behavior Management

Respect Code

  • follow directions given by all school personnel

  • behave so that other students may learn

  • be respectful and kind in your words and actions

  • be respectful of all property

  • put forth effort, realizing mistakes will happen

  • HAVE A GREAT ATTITUDE!

Behavior Management

In order to create an environment that fosters safety and academic success, we will use the following behavior management plan. During the first week, the students and I will review the Respect Code, discuss each item, and model how each will look in the classroom. Each student will sign a contract, agreeing to demonstrate these characteristics and behaviors each day. Together, we will write a class mission statement, incorporating parts of the Respect Code.

We will monitor behaviors with the use of a clipboard on which teachers record negative behaviors/missing assignments. These marks are also recorded in the students’ agendas at the end of each day. Students who have a week without any infractions or missing assignments known as a “0-0” week earn a sticker. Your child can earn a ”0-0” party by accumulating these “0-0” weeks.

Token Economy

At Scott Elementary, we use a token economy in which students earn Scott bucks for a variety of reasons. In my classroom, each student will apply for and be responsible for a classroom job. This is to both help our classroom run more efficiently and to teach students about responsibility. I have found the students truly enjoy participating in this and feel they have ownership of their classroom. In addition, students get paid for their work with “Scott Bucks”. The money students earn can be used to purchase privileges in class, items at our Scott Store, or be saved for the quarterly auction. Moreover, students can earn bonus money throughout the month by doing well in class, displaying outstanding citizenship, and participating in optional activities.
