Hi, I'm Mrs. McKinley!
Welcome to the MES Art Program!
I am the Art Teacher at Mascoutah Elementary School, grades K-5. I earned an Associate of Arts Degree in Art from Belleville Area College (currently known as SWIC), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and a Masters in Elementary Education from Olivet Nazarene University in Bourbonnais, Illinois. I am blessed and honored to work in the Mascoutah School District since 1990 when I started my student teaching. I have taught third grade and fifth grade gifted at Scott Elementary and art for third through fifth grades at both Scott and Mascoutah Elementary Schools. Join me in room 100 in the Fine Arts Building at Mascoutah Elementary School.
I have ALWAYS..........and I mean ALWAYS had a love for Art. As long as I can remember I have always loved to draw, paint, craft, design, decorate, and be creative in all ways. I have some photos of just a small sampling of things that I have created. From gardening, paintings, drawings, designing logos, murals, crafting, welding art, etc. I hope you enjoy looking at my works of art!
My wish for my students is that they learn to enjoy making art and are proud of their creations. My students are unique, special, and amazing young people. There is no wrong way to make art and there are no "I messed up, can I start over" moments. Instead we can take a closer look at what you have created, work together and come up with a way to problem solve and re-create an awesome work of art. I want my students to be proud of their accomplishments just like I am proud of them. I want students to compliment each other, believe in themselves, try hard, and work together as a team. But most of all, I want my students to HAVE FUN!
art has the role in education of helping children become like themselves instead of more like everyone else.
